The incident took place around 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, when police were alerted to a person on the bridge that runs over the Saw Mill River Parkway at Pleasantville Road, said Pleasantville Police Chief Erik Grutzner.

"The young man had left his house and some point had decided to consider ending his life," the chief said.

Pleasantville Police, along with help from the Westchester County Police and the Pleasantville Fire Department and Ambulance Service responded and began talking to the young man, encouraging him to come down, Grutzner said.

While talking, first responders were busy putting safety measures in place so that if he did jump from the bridge, he would not be hurt badly, the chief said.

At one point in the conversation with Pleasantville officers, they were able to grab the young man and drag him to safety, Grutzner said.

The young man was then transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

"I appreciate the help we received from all involved to bring this to a good ending," the chief said.
